Sleep Deep with Vitamins

Sleep Deep with Vitamins

If you are having issues with sleep it is likely your vitamin D and B levels are not sufficient.  These vitamins are crucial for falling asleep at the right time and for reaching a deep enough sleep to fully repair your body.  Not only does optimum vitamin D levels help you sleep better, but it can also improve allergies and autoimmune disease, osteoporosis, behavioural issues, depression, and more.  Vitamin D helps you sleep,  and sleep lets your body repair. B12, B6, and B5 also have an important role in regenerative sleep.

Common conditions associated with a lack of regenerative sleep include any sleep disorder, headaches, immune dysfunction, neurological issues, and body pain.  If you or your children have any of these issues it is worth testing vitamin levels to see if low levels are contributing.

If your levels are low you will be started on a therapeutic dose of D and B vitamins. Low vitamin D is extremely common in the Pacific Northwest,  I frequently see patients well below the reference range.  This is interesting because the optimum level of vitamin D for deep sleep is actually above the recommended range!

It’s important to note that taking too much vitamin D can be detrimental to your health and should be done under the supervision of a qualified medical practitioner.  Repeated testing of vitamin D is usually necessary during  the first year of a sleep program to make sure levels are optimized.

Thanks to Dr Stasha Gominak, neurologist and sleep expert, who shared her Rightsleep program with me.
